Depending on your interests, we can arrange a number of special activities,
demonstrations and workshops lead by local artists, including:
Mask Making: Learn from one of the
most respected mask masking families
in all of Mexico at the Horta's shops in
Tócuaro.  Beginners welcome.

Cooking: From Corundas
(pyramid-shaped tamales) to Sopa de
Tarasca (a tomato-based tortilla soup),
local food is fun to make and even
more fun to eat. Come shop in the
market, prepare traditional dishes, and
enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Reed Weaving: In this workshop you
will learn how to make everything from
a simple box to ornate figurines by
learning from the Ascensio family in
Puacuaro.

Ceramics: Manuel Morales' family has
been working in ceramics for
generations.  His specialty is
integrating indigenous stories and
imagery into his creations in
Tzintzuntzan.

Sombrero Making: Jaracuaro is
famous for the traditional (and not so
traditional) hat making.  Take a tour of
the entire process from palm leaves to
the Mexican hat dance.

Guitars and Pots: The towns of
Paracho and Cocucho are famous for
their hand-made guitars and giant
pottery vessels respectively.  Either or
both towns make a great day trip.
