Getting to Pátzcuaro is easier than you think, and
with a little planning (and information, like we have here) it shouldn't
cost you too much time, money or energy.  Please contact us if you

By Bus
Morelia and Uruapan to Patzcuaro
Buses run every 10-15 minutes from Morelia and Uruapan to
Patzcuaro; take about 45-60 minutes; and cost about $30
pesos. No reservation is needed; All bus lines are the same.
Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo to Uruapan
Parikuni has regular bus service from Ixtapa/Zihua to Uruapan.

Guadalajara to Morelia
There is regular bus service (every 1-2 hours) from
Guadalajara to Morelia.  The trip is about 3.5 hours and
costs about $250 (Primera Plus, first class) to $350 pesos
(ETN, luxury class).
Mexico City to Morelia
ETN, luxury class, also has 5.5 hour buses from Mexico
City's Northern Terminal  (6:40, 10:30, 12:20, 5:20, 8:30)
and 4 hour and 15 minute  buses every 30 minutes from the  
Poniente (closer to airport) Terminal, both for $310 pesos.
We recommend using Cheaptickets, Travelocity
or other discount airfare search engine to find
the best deal for you.  

The closest airport to Patzcuaro is the Morelia
Airport (MLM).  Continental has direct flights
from Houston, Mexicana and America fly direct
from LA and Chicago, and Delta flies through
Mexico City.  None of the direct flights are at
particularly convenient travel times, but they
save on travel time.

You can also often fly into Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo
(ZIH), Guadalajara (GDL), or Mexico City (MEX)
for less money.
You cannot rent cars in Patzcuaro, but you can
rent cars in Morelia, Ixtapa/Zihuatanjo,
Guadalajara and Mexico City.  We recommend
using Cheaptickets, Travelocity or other discount
car rental service to find the best deal.  
Insurance is usually expensive, so check with
your credit card company to see what coverage
they provide so you're not double paying.

Driving from the US boarder takes about 2 days
(or 14-16 hours of driving) and (hopefully soon)

suggestions.
